Overview

Unlike acute financial shocks, economic uncertainty is a sustained, background weight. It is the stress of “not knowing”—about inflation, retirement, or market stability. This session is designed to shift your relationship with uncertainty from one of resistance (which creates suffering) to one of equanimity (which creates clarity).

Rather than seeking a “fix” for the external economy, this practice roots you in your “Circle of Control,” helping you distinguish between global noise and values-consistent action.

What You Will Practice

  • The “Upright” Presence: A posture-based mindfulness technique to move from a state of passive relaxation to alert, steady presence.
  • Identifying the Resistance: Noticing how the nervous system treats “not knowing” as a physical threat, and learning to sit inside that sensation without bracing against it.
  • The Circle of Control Visualisation: A practical mental exercise to separate global economic factors (outside the circle) from personal financial agency (inside the circle).
  • Values-Based Committed Action: Identifying one “small, concrete, genuinely possible” step you can take in the next 24 hours, regardless of the economic climate.

When to Use This Session

  • When you feel “paralyzed” by financial news or global economic updates.
  • During periods of sustained transition, such as career changes or shifting market conditions.
  • When you find yourself obsessing over financial factors that are genuinely outside of your influence.

Instructor Note: This meditation is slightly more “active” than the previous two. It is designed to bridge the gap between internal mindfulness and external financial behavior. We recommend having a notebook nearby to jot down your “One Step” immediately after the session.
