Overview
Our relationship with money did not begin when we opened our first bank account; it began “upstream,” in the atmosphere of our childhood homes. We often move through our financial lives driven by “Money Scripts”—unconscious beliefs inherited from previous generations that were designed to help them survive their world, but may be sabotaging ours.
This guided visualization (21 mins 29 secs) is a compassionate journey into your financial history. It is designed to help you identify the “emotional temperature” of your earliest money memories, recognize the stories you were handed, and begin the process of consciously rewriting your own narrative.
What You Will Practice
- Upstream Visualization: A gentle mental journey to trace the “river” of your financial life back to its formative sources.
- The Compassionate Witness: Observing early childhood financial atmospheres without judgment, allowing you to see the adults in your life as imperfect humans rather than all-knowing authorities.
- Identifying Money Scripts: A diagnostic check-in with four primary financial patterns (Avoidance, Worship, Status, and Vigilance) to see which narrative is running in your background.
- Meeting the Younger Self: A self-compassion exercise to offer acknowledgment and safety to the part of you that first learned to fear or obsess over money.
- The “Bank” Perspective: Learning to step out of the “current” of inherited habits and onto the “bank” of conscious, adult choice.
When to Use This Session
- Before or after completing the “Money Story” journaling prompts.
- When you notice a recurring, irrational financial behavior that you can’t seem to break with logic alone.
- When you feel a sense of “inherited” weight or shame regarding your family’s financial history.
Instructor Note: This is a deep-dive session. We recommend ensuring you have a private, quiet space where you won’t be interrupted. Because this meditation can surface vivid memories, it is highly recommended to have your WiseMind Companion Guide ready for the post-session journaling prompts while the insights are still fresh.
