In this session, Dr Iain McGilchrist investigates the need for control in the relationship to the culture we live in. He discusses how we have much less control than we think, and that we need much less control than we think we need. Dr McGilchrist examines how many of the psychological conditions that present to mental health practitioners have a component in them about the need for control. He highlights how the left-hemisphere of the brain consciously exists to control and manipulate the environment. Dr McGilchrist provides us with a mental exercise that can rapidly reduce anxiety associated with the need for control.
