Start Here: Trauma — Beyond War and Violence
… Reclaiming safety … Reclaiming agency … Reclaiming life
Our Trauma Management Protocol: Beyond War and Violence is a self‑guided online program, grounded in trauma-informed clinical frameworks, somatic stabilization, and practical neuroscience.
For individuals affected by war, combat, displacement, or profound threat, the missing piece is rarely more information. It is a safe, realistic way to work with hyperarousal, intrusive reminders, night-time fear, and disrupted living—without being forced into overwhelming memory exposure before the nervous system is ready.
We invite you to join us as we focus on the real, lived experience of survival, stabilization, and recovery, step by step:
🔹 Normalize the Survival Alarm: Understand that hypervigilance, numbness, irritability, and intrusive memories are natural nervous system adaptations to extreme threat, not personal weakness or character failure.
🔹 Build Immediate Stabilization & Safety: Learn practical, low-intensity somatic tools—such as paced breathing, sensory grounding, and orientation—to interrupt flashbacks and separate “then” from “now”.
🔹 Rebuild Everyday Agency & Rhythms: Restore essential daily structures across sleep, gentle movement, manageable tasks, and safe social boundaries through low-demand, repeatable actions.
🔹 Tame Night-Time Vigilance: Work with nightmares, insomnia, and darkness using trauma-informed pre-sleep rituals and “good enough” sleep adjustments tailored to unstable or crowded environments.
🔹 Navigate Relational Strain & Clear Boundaries: Identify fight-or-flight reactions within close relationships, learning to express underlying survival needs and establish clear, protective boundaries.
🔹 Integrate Loss & Post-Traumatic Growth: Make space for layered grief through continuing bonds and meaningful rituals, while identifying survivor strengths, core values, and realistic long-term self-care plans.
A Word from Our Director
If you are reading this, you may be living with memories that feel almost too much to bear—images of ruined streets, missing loved ones, or young people sent to fight and never returning. The destruction of homes and communities, and the loss of so many young lives, are not distant headlines; they are painful reminders that war and political violence tear through real families and real futures.
In my clinical work, it became clear very quickly that in war there are no true winners. The suffering reaches everyone: children growing up in fear, civilians trying to rebuild from ruins, and combat personnel who come home with invisible wounds. I once worked with a sniper who clung to official justifications for violence, repeating them like a script, even as he privately admitted he no longer wanted to live with what he had seen and done. His story, like many others, showed me how deeply war can damage the human spirit.
This Trauma Management Protocol grows out of a deep empathy for all who are touched by conflict and violence—civilians, former fighters, aid workers, and witnesses from afar. It brings together traumainformed, evidencebased methods, gentle bodybased practices, and simple exercises to help you find moments of safety, steadiness, and connection in the middle of very hard circumstances. It is not a replacement for intensive therapy, but it is designed to be an accessible online resource you can use at no cost, wherever you are, and at your own pace.
As you move through this workbook, you are invited to take things slowly, pause when you need to, and return to the practices that offer even a small sense of relief. You cannot change what has happened, but you can strengthen how you carry it—and you do not have to do that alone.

The Journey Ahead
Through ten core lessons, targeted somatic grounding practices, and structured reflection tools, we bridge the gap between traumatic hyperarousal and a steady, grounded sense of safety, agency, and ongoing stabilization.
- Phase 1: Safety, Stabilization & the Survival Body: We begin by mapping early warning signs, understanding how war and danger shape the nervous system, and building a menu of sensory grounding tools to de-escalate acute overwhelm and panic.
- Phase 2: Unhooking Triggers & Rebuilding Agency: Using gentle cognitive reappraisal, we differentiate past danger from present reality, dismantle self-blame, and re-establish daily life rhythms through tiny, concrete actions that restore personal agency.
- Phase 3: Relational Safety, Boundaries & Sleep: We examine how survival patterns impact intimacy, parenting, and trust, establishing safe communication protocols while implementing trauma-informed strategies to manage nightmares and night-time hyperarousal.
- Phase 4: Meaning, Continuing Bonds & Long-Term Integration: We conclude by honoring layered losses through continuing bonds and rituals, reconnecting with core values without forced optimism, and consolidating your personalized Trauma Self-Care Plan.
