About This Book

The Master and His Emissary explores how the brain’s two hemispheres shape human perception and Western culture. Iain McGilchrist argues that the right hemisphere apprehends reality as interconnected, embodied, and contextual, while the left abstracts, categorizes, and controls. Tracing history from ancient Greece to modernity, he contends that Western civilization increasingly privileges the left hemisphere’s narrow vision, leading to cultural imbalance and a diminished sense of meaning and wholeness.
