Embodied DBT Training 1
with Dr Eboni Webb
SESSION 1 OF 5
Duration 14mins 56secs
TAKE THE QUIZ:
In this session, Dr. Eboni Webb explores the embodied mind and how it integrates the fragmented parts of a person’s mind affected by trauma. She explains how trauma can lead to structural dissociation, which fragments a person’s sense of self and memories. Clients may experience their minds as divided into two main states: the survivor mind (focused on safety, survival, and logic) and the vulnerable mind (where trauma-related emotions and sensations are housed). Each state has its benefits and drawbacks, but healing requires balancing both into a unified, embodied mind. This involves integrating survival strategies with emotional processing, allowing clients to feel and process their trauma while also recognising the wisdom of their survival mechanisms.
Dr Webb discusses ways to help clients move from fragmented states into an embodied state, and help them transition from merely surviving to truly thriving by embracing both the past and the present.
