Traditional mindfulness techniques can sometimes overwhelm clients who have experienced trauma, triggering responses like hyperarousal or the “freeze defense.” Dr. Webb introduces somatic mindfulness, which integrates movement, breath, and body awareness to gently reintroduce clients to their bodies after trauma.

Somatic mindfulness helps clients explore how sensations, urges, and movements manifest in their bodies and how these experiences are connected to emotions. Dr Webb emphasises the importance of compassion and non-judgment when guiding clients through body-based awareness exercises.
