I appreciate a lot the broad access to affective disorders or mood disorders. It’s important to know the importance of the homeostasis as a concept to differenciate well between disfunctional and functional mood states. Becoming aware of selfregulation as a powerful approach to adapt to all kind of moods and stress seems to be included well in this serie of Dr. Chris Aiken. I’m very interested to get the following parts of the serie and to find probably also differenciation to the diagnosis of schizo – affecive disorders.
I found the concept of homeostasis (ie a mood disorder is the failed activation of homeostatic mechanism) to be very useful. Often patients fear their own emotions and will live carefully bland, avoidant lives, which of course dramatically undermines their resilience.
