CBT for Depression 1
with Dr Nina Josefowitz
In this session, Dr Nina Josefowitz delves into common dysfunctional thought patterns, or cognitive distortions, that often reinforce depression. She builds on the previous session’s introduction to cognitive interventions by pausing to explore how these habitual negative thinking traps contribute to feelings of helplessness and withdrawal. We learn how to identify and label these thought patterns, enabling clients to distance themselves from harmful thoughts. The session also introduces mindfulness and labelling techniques as immediate interventions for challenging depressive thoughts. By naming cognitive distortions and recognising their impact, clients can better manage emotional responses and behaviours. Dr Josefowitz provide homework assignments that encourage us to reflect on thinking traps throughout the week, preparing for deeper work in future sessions.
