Creating Balanced Thoughts

SESSION 3 OF 4

Duration 14mins 08secs

In this session, Dr Nina Josefowitz investigates the process of creating balanced thoughts as a continuation of cognitive interventions for depression. Building on previous sessions, we review the identification of automatic negative thoughts, and the evaluation of evidence for and against those thoughts. Dr Josefowitz then examines developing balanced thoughts that take into account all available evidence, emphasising questions and techniques to help clients construct these thoughts. She focuses on consolidating balanced thoughts to ensure they resonate emotionally and stick with the client, using repetition, emotional engagement, and simplified versions of the thoughts. This process helps clients replace rigid, depressive thought patterns with nuanced and supportive alternatives.
