In this module we also learn the connection between pain and trauma, how to make EMDR modifications for chronic pain, the neuroscience of complicated vs uncomplicated grief and how to work with complicated grief in EMDR therapy.

In this session, Dr Jennifer Sweeton investigates the connection between pain and trauma. She explains the overlap between trauma areas of the brain and pain areas of the brain. Dr Sweeton offers strategies that can help our clients work with psychological and physical pain.

EMDR Modifications for Chronic Pain
In this session, Dr Jennifer Sweeton outlines a few key modifications to the Original 8-Phase model of EMDR when working with clients suffering from chronic pain. Dr Sweeton offers some recommendations from Maggie Phillips, PhD’s “Pain Control for EMDR” protocol.

Neuroscience of Complicated vs Uncomplicated Grief
In this session, Dr Jennifer Sweeton discusses a key neuroscientific difference between uncomplicated and complicated (including traumatic) grief and explores clinical implications of this difference.
